Hello Aquia friends and neighbors

My name is Josh Regan and â€‹I am a father of four children ages 12 through 27, two of whom graduated from SCPS schools. I have a wonderful wife, Julia, and we have been married for 18 years. We have lived in Stafford for the last 14 years, all in Aquia district. We recently purchased what we hope to be our retirement home here as well.

I am running for the Aquia District School Board seat because I believe that every student – in every classroom – deserves the opportunity to learn in a safe, supportive environment, guided by experienced, passionate educators. If we want to raise student achievement in Stafford, we have to start with the basics: strong teachers, safe schools, and smart investments.

I hope to earn your support

Raised by a single mom, I attended schools in many states, including Oregon, Indiana, Washington DC, before graduating high school in Manassas. As a student who moved frequently, I quickly learned how to get along with people from a variety of backgrounds. A curious child, I enjoyed school but found it hard to focus. As an adult I realized that my challenges as a student were the result of undiagnosed attention deficit disorder.

Growing up in the late 1970’s and 1980’s, ADD was not something that was widely diagnosed or understood, and certainly not something that was addressed. While attending college, I realized I wanted to become a teacher and help other students avoid the struggles I endured.

Our children need the best opportunities in their education to be able to follow their path, regardless of whether it is college, trade school, employment, or the military.

I did not take a traditional route in college but was able to obtain my B.A. in Social Sciences from Washington State University in 2003. I earned a Master of Education degree with a focus on Special Education from George Mason University in 2010 and earned a second Master of Education degree in Educational Policy, Planning, and Leadership, from the College of William and Mary in 2020.

In September I will be entering my 19th year of teaching. I started teaching in 2003 but had to leave the profession in 2007 for a job that afforded me more money. Once my wife and I moved to Stafford I realized that my passion for teaching was more important than money and I resumed my teaching career in Stafford County. I taught at Colonial Forge for 4 years and Brooke Point for 7. As a result, I have a first-hand understanding of many of the issues and needs at hand within our county schools. My greatest desire is to give back to the students in the community that my family loves.

I have also been a varsity basketball head coach for the last 10 years and have practical knowledge and experience in how to work in a team environment, which is critical to being a successful part of the Stafford County School Board.

Take the next step
